✊ What Do We Stand For?
Your guide to rooting deeper, growing truer, and blossoming wider in our PNW community.
A new season of summer is nearly here. And we’d love to be writing today to simply encourage you to enjoy the sunshine and life this time of year brings, but this is a moment in our country’s modern history that needs to be tended to.
These are times that feel like potential futures are balancing on a pinpoint, potentially going one way or another depending on how we show up.
What is happening in LA right now is a prelude to what will spread throughout the country. Empire is built on violent force. And what we value and stand for will be tested.
One of the local grassroots organizations we see as deeply showing up for what is needed to confront the reality of this political moment is Super Familia. From @m.art.ten—
“ICE IS KIDNAPPING OUR NEIGHBORS AT THE FEDERAL COURTHOUSE REGULARLY. ICE has made daily kidnappings the norm at the immigration court in Seattle. So far a small group of people are there to document and observe. But MORE PEOPLE ARE NEEDED. The building opens at 8:00AM and the immigration courts on floors 6, 7, and 8. ICE runs back and forth between these floors looking for people to kidnap. People who’s cases were dismissed and people they believe to be there alone are at huge risk. Even just observing silently stops the kidnappings sometimes for now, but not always. This is an ongoing need and situation so there is no one-time rally, the ask is to go the federal building between 8-5 and coordinate with people also as the building that day. A singular rally is not what is needed, sustained resistance is. Talk to your friends and make a place and follow @superfamilia_kc for more updates.”

Tending To Community
Support Black Star Farmers’ Hearth Center—Dakota Place
Join Black Star Farmers at Dakota Place, our new hearth center, for one of our three collective visioning sessions next week: Wednesday June 11 from 6-8PM; Saturday June 14 from 4-6PM; and Sunday June 15 from 11AM-1PM. At our sessions, we will reflect on how our site can serve the needs of community. Through collective site analysis and spatial programming, we will inform the design of the land and the soon-to-be remodeled house. RSVP here.
They also have been hosting weekly work days at Dakota Place on Sundays. If folks are interested in coming out to support, we are especially looking for people who have experience with carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and/or design, or general experience working with tools to help develop the site! Support their work here.
Workshops, Retreats, & Rituals For Healing
Climate Circle at Heron’s Nest: Grief, Grounding, and Remembering Together
Every third Sunday in the summer, from 11am–3pm, we gather at Heron’s Nest — a once-wounded 3.5-acre stretch of land now on the path to being rematriated to the Duwamish people — for a Climate Circle: a space to slow down, feel deeply, and be held in community and nurture communal mental health & wellbeing. The circle starts at 11:00 am, and lasts about an hour and a half. If you like, you can stay and we'll make art together until around 3:00 pm.
Climate Circles are spaces to name where one’s mental health is and what aches — grief, rage, fear, numbness, even fleeting hope — and to let those feelings breathe in the company of others. Rooted in deep listening and collective care, this practice reminds us we are not alone, and that feeling fully is part of learning to relate differently. Learn more and register here.

Threshold to Essential Relating
On June 13th-15th, reveal authentic connection & bring your relationships alive. This weekend is a very deep (initial) dive into how you hold the story about your experiences of shame, dignity and individual authority, which is to say how you discern when is the right time and what is the right thing to say, while interacting with someone who is upset or emotionally dysregulated.
This journey is a way back to your own inherent guide as the native connection to your own true emotional arousal or erotic intelligence – the source of your capacity to experience true freedom and full expression of power, not just for yourself, but as a valuable contributor in any environment that calls you to it. Learn more and register here.
